SOCPEN Bicol in Action

DSWD Bicol started the release of the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens Program (SocPen) this year in Ragay, Camarines Sur. This is the first SocPen payout in the Bicol Region, following its increase in monthly stipend from 500.00 per month to 1,000.00.
Some 3,390 indigent senior citizens from the town of Ragay, Camarines Sur received their first-semester pension. Regional Director Norman S. Laurio personally supervised the payout that started today and will run until Tuesday, March 24-26, 2024. The Local Government Unit of Ragay headed by Mayor Thaddeus Ramos, provided the necessary logistical support during this activity
Each beneficiary received a total of PHP 6,000.00 that covers the six months pension of an indigent senior citizen for the first semester of 2024. Most beneficiaries expressed their happiness on the increased stipend which will be used to augment their medical and basic needs.
The Social Pension is one of the programs implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development aimed at alleviating the hardships of qualified senior citizens and assisting them with their medical needs. This includes indigent or impoverished senior citizens who do not receive any pension, income, or regular support from family for their basic needs.
